Camel racing is a popular sport with a particularly deep-rooted history in the United Arab Emirates that well precedes the first official race tracks constructed in the early 70s. Grab the family and get involved in an authentic display of local culture and heritage at the upcoming camel racing season running from October 2018 to April 2019. The championships attract droves of highly skilled competitors from around the world for an opportunity to compete for coveted titles and valuable prizes. Experience dressage, jumping and cross-country competitions starring some of the region's most skilled horses. The Emirates Equestrian Centre is hosting a calendar of shows from October 2018 to April 2019, in conjunction with Dubai’s horse racing season at Meydan Racecourse, with a series of competitions featuring training and national league horses as they display excellent training, obedience and flexibility. The beginning of November will see the recommencement of Dubai’s highly competitive horseracing season hosted at the Meydan Racecourse. A new international T20 cricket league, organised in partnership with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), is taking place in the UAE. Dubai is one of the host cities for the 24-day tournament, sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Featuring five new franchise teams of 16 players, and 22 matches, the tournament aims to be the most innovative, progressive and inclusive T20 competition in the world. The exciting team line-up will comprise six international star players, two emerging players from ICC full member countries, three from ICC associate members, two juniors and three UAE cricketers. While the event has not yet been officially named, it has already received the support of six ICC full-member nation cricket boards, including England and Wales, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, New Zealand and the West Indies.

Emirati Traditional Games Exhibition’ celebrates traditional heritage elements of the UAE. The exhibition displays artworks inspired by the games Emirati children created to entertain themselves in the past. With time, these traditional games became a crucial aspect of the heritage of the United Arab Emirates. As part of ‘The National Traditional Handicrafts Festival’ the ‘Emirati Traditional Games Exhibition’ highlights five of the most popular local games: Al Saggala, Al Gaheef, Um Al Eyal, Khoosa Boosa and Adim Al Serra. Continuing on the success of last year’s edition, the exhibition’s second edition features a selection of five professional Emirati artiste’s creative installations of the featured games. The exhibition is designed to instill national pride and pass on UAE’s heritage to future generations while promoting UAE’s heritage amongst residents and tourists. The event also supports UAE artists by commissioning and giving them the opportunity to showcase and display their work to the national and international audience.
Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), is honoured to announce that it will host the Bayreuth Festival’s international opera debut of Richard Wagner’s The Valkyrie under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 and Friday, February 1, 2019 at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi. The Bayreuth Festival is renowned for its outstanding performances of the 19th-Century German composer Richard Wagner’s operas, performed in a special theatre, the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, designed by Wagner himself, so that he could produce his own works. The Bayreuth Festival’s acclaimed productions receive over 500,000 ticket requests each year with only 60,000 tickets available and a waiting list of up to 9 or 10 years. As a result, Bayreuth Festival fans can eagerly anticipate the opportunity to purchase tickets for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see this spectacular production in the UAE’s capital, performed for the first time ever outside of Germany.
Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President’s Representative and Chairman of the Emirates Heritage Club (EHC), the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Heritage Festival 2019 will be held at the Sweihan racecourse in Abu Dhabi. The festival hosts: •Traditional camel races •Beauty contests •Saluki race •Traditional market •Heritage village •Traditional Souq •Daily traditional activities •Contests for handicrafts and horse riding The public will be treated with an exciting line-up of heritage and entertainment programmes including traditional games, Yolla, falconry and Emirati cuisine, in addition to booths showcasing handicrafts and traditional Majlis. A heritage village will be set up at the racecourse featuring Rababa performers, pottery and souvenir exhibitions and performances by Bou Theib stables horsemen.
Emirates Heritage Club, in collaboration with the emirates Equestrian Federation, will organize the ‘HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan 13th International Equestrian Festival 2019’, in Boudheib International Endurance Village in Abu Dhabi. The festival will feature a scientific seminar on horses and on Boudheib Protocol. It will also include a series of CEI 80 km and CEN 40 km qualifying races, while the main event of the competitions will be the HH Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Endurance Cup CEI3* 240kmride that will take place over three days. Other rides that will be held under this cup include: •CEN 120km Junior and young riders ‘race •CEN 100km ladies ride •CEN 100km ride of privately owned horses •Final races and educational rides
The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi is proud to add the Chinese pianist Ran Jia to the list of Abu Dhabi Classics' artist performances with this unique recital performance. The young Chinese pianist has gained international admiration for her extraordinary interpretative abilities for the piano work of Franz Schubert and will perform; Schubert Sonata in D major D850, Daqun Jia Three Preludes for Solo Piano and Schubert Sonata in B flat major 960.
